There’s a fine line between rustic and plain old rusty. The more enlightened amongst us might argue that rustic isn't something you can design. An object, whether it’s a cast iron bath or an enamel mug, either has it or it doesn’t. We agree. And while others have described our Marseille Stannum Copper Bateau Bath as ‘elegantly rustic’, we think of it as a contemporary bathtub with it's feet planted firmly in the past.
Marseille Stannum is a modern interpretation of an 18th Century French bateau bath. Like most of The Cast Iron Bath Company’s designs, we have taken several aesthetic cues from a classic cast iron bath design and added a number of modifications, practical and visual, to make a tub ideal for modern living.
The Marseille Stannum is handcrafted from thick sheet copper. Tin is then applied to the surface of the bath using 18th Century techniques. The result is a classical form that marries perfectly to a raw and unique beauty. This is a copper bathtub that works effortlessly in traditional and contemporary bathrooms. Supremely comfortable and unconventionally graceful, the Marseille Stannum Copper Bateau Bath is a bath quite like no other.
